Dec 13th: Pinelands Commission Meeting
Why you should care:
Critical Headwaters: The 900-acre Black Run Preserve is located in the headwaters of the southwest branch of the Rancocas Creek, one of New Jersey's most ecologically significant waterways. Protecting this area will preserve water quality for both the ecosystem and the 13% of Philadelphia's drinking water that the creek supplies.
Biodiversity Hotspot: The Black Run Preserve is home to a variety of species, many of which rely on the undisturbed headwaters forest for survival. Bulldozing this area for development threatens countless plants and animals that are integral to the Pine Barrens ecosystem.
Forest and Wetlands: Rezoning this area to a “Pinelands Forest Area" will provide essential protections for its pristine forests and wetlands, which play a critical role in filtering water, preventing erosion, and sustaining wildlife
